Using Sonar
Sessions
Every visit as one story: pages in order, chats and conversions, an AI summary, and naming the visitor.
A session is one visit: a visitor's pages until they've been away for 30 minutes.
Finding sessions
- Live, All and Chats switch between people on the site now, every visit, and visits that included a chat.
- Pick a period (All time, the last 24 hours, 7, 30 or 90 days, or custom dates).
- Filters narrow the list by outcome (Converted, Chatted or Browsed only), device, source, country, landing page or minimum length.
- Use the ↑ and ↓ buttons (or keys) to step through sessions, and Share to copy a link to one.
Inside a session
- Duration, pages, source and outcome at the top.
- Generate summary writes a short AI account of the visit: where they came from, what they read, what they asked in a chat and how it ended.
- Timeline: a chart of the visit. Each page is a bar as wide as the time spent on it; chat messages appear as dots (visitor and agent), and conversions as green markers. Hover anything for details.
- Play (when a visit has more than one step) replays it: a playhead moves along the timeline and each page, chat message and conversion in the Journey lights up as it's reached. Quiet stretches go by quickly and busy moments slowly. Pause or stop at any time, or click the timeline to jump to that moment.
- Journey: every page, chat message and conversion in order, with times.
- Chat transcript if the visitor chatted.
Naming visitors
If you know who a visitor is, open their session and click Name visitor. Add a name (and optionally an email and notes), then choose how to recognise them:
- This device on this IP: their IP address plus the same browser, operating system and device. Best for shared offices, where several people use one IP.
- Anyone on this IP: every visit from that IP address. Good for a home or a one-person office.
The panel shows how often they've been seen. From then on their visits show the name in Sessions, Live chat and on the Overview, for everyone with access to the site.
Sonar doesn't store a cookie or ID on visitors, so someone on a new network (or, with the first option, a new browser) shows as a new visitor until you name that visit too. Click Edit name to change the details or how they're recognised, or Remove name to stop recognising them. Viewers can see names but not change them.
