Using Sonar
Dashboards
Build boards from widgets, arrange them by drag and drop, change how each one is shown, and filter by date.
A dashboard is a board of widgets for one site. Each widget shows the result of a saved Ask Sonar query.
Creating a dashboard
Click + New dashboard in the sidebar (or on a site page). Click the title to rename it. Each site can have several dashboards; mark one with Set as default to open it first.
Adding widgets
Click + Add widget, choose a saved query, and preview it. Then pick:
- Display as: Metric (a single number), Table (top rows) or Chart (bar or line).
- Name and size: Small, Medium or Large.
Click Add to dashboard. You can also add a widget straight from an answer in Ask Sonar with Add to dashboard.
Changing a widget
Open a widget's ⋯ menu to:
- Rename it.
- Change Display as: Metric, Table, Bar chart or Line chart.
- Change its Size.
- Duplicate it, or Move to dashboard to put it on another board.
- Open in Ask Sonar to see or refine the query behind it.
- Remove widget. You can Undo straight after.
Edit layout: rearranging and resizing
Click Edit layout. While editing:
- Drag a widget from anywhere on the card to move it. With a keyboard, focus the ⋮⋮ handle, press Space to pick it up and use the arrow keys.
- On a phone or tablet, press and hold a widget, then drag.
- Drag the bottom-right corner to resize it.
- Use Set as default, Duplicate dashboard or Delete dashboard under the dashboard's title.
Changes save automatically. Click Done when you're finished.
Filtering by date
The date button at the top applies to every widget:
- As saved (the default): each widget uses its own query's period.
- Today, the last 7, 30 or 90 days, or All time.
- Custom: pick a start and end date on the calendar.
A widget whose query already has a period (for example "last month") shows the overlap with the dates you choose. Sonar remembers the choice for each dashboard. The summary band at the top shows visitors, page views, conversions and average session for the same dates.
Emailing a dashboard
Click Email to send the dashboard now or set up a weekly report. See Email reports.
Viewers (and client logins) can see dashboards but not edit them.
