Troubleshooting
Domain Issues
www vs non-www, subdomains, staging and changing domains.
www and non-www
The snippet records visits on whichever host it's installed on, so example.com and www.example.com both report to the same site. You only need to add the site once.
Subdomains
Subdomains such as blog.example.com or shop.example.com can share a site key if you want them reported together, or have their own site if you want them kept apart. Use the same snippet on each one to combine them.
Staging and local development
Create a separate site for staging, so test traffic doesn't skew your real numbers. Visits from localhost are recorded too, so remove the snippet from local builds if you don't want them.
Changing your domain
If your site moves to a new domain, keep the same snippet. Your history stays in one place. Update the domain in your site settings so verification checks the right address.
Wrong domain entered
If you made a typo when creating the site, update the domain in the site's settings. The site key doesn't change, so you don't need to reinstall anything.
